Following the postponement of the 2020 edition of the European Athletics U18 Championships we are pleased to confirm the new dates for this event: 26 to 29 August 2021 in Rieti/ITA. In the preparation for the event, please find below some important information:

Entries
According to the new Event date, the following Entries dates will be applicable:
Preliminary Entries                            Opening on Tuesday 13 April 2021
Closing on Thursday 29 April 2021 (14:00 CET)
Final Entries                                        Opening on Tuesday 27 July 2021
Closing on Monday 16 August 2021 (14:00 CET)
Age categories
All age group championships in 2021 will be organized according to the competition regulations displayed on the European Athletics website. This means that the U18 Championships to be held in Rieti/ITA will be reserved for athletes aged at least 16 (sixteen) and not more than 17 (seventeen) years on 31 December of the year of the competition (in this case 2021), thus athletes born in 2004 or 2005 will be eligible to compete

When deciding about the postponement of the event, the European Athletics Council considered all available arguments, and eventually felt that in these difficult times it was important to support the U18 age category and give them the opportunity to compete with their peers from across Europe at the very highest level, though this will mean that athletes born in 2003 will miss the opportunity to battle for the medals at these championships.

Nevertheless the athletes born in 2003 will also have their opportunity to compete and represent their country internationally at the European Athletics U20 Championships to be organised in Tallinn/EST on 15-18 July 2021. We appreciate that being at the bottom of a four-year broad age category makes the qualification more challenging, this is why we invite the Member Federations to consider additional measures to address the special cases in their selection policies and also take advantage of the special entry condition integrated to the competition regulations of the U20 Championships (see regulation 503.6.).
The competition timetable, the list of official implements as well as the entries standard & conditions will be communicated at a later stage. European Athletics U18 Championships 2022, Jerusalem/ISR Due to the Maccabi Games taking place in Jerusalem and being moved to July 2022, note that the U18 Championships 2022 will now take place one week earlier than originally planned, i.e. from Monday 4 to Thursday 7 July 2022.
